“Same room, same amp, different guitar — the room sounds wrong now.
Brooklyn-based session player; in five bands depending on the week. Just swapped a Strat that lived on the board for six years for a '60s Tele Custom with P-90s. The board hasn't recalibrated. Posts about it daily in the forum.
The Strat was a 2008 American Standard that earned its way to the gigs. The Tele is older and has a story she doesn't tell visitors. The Princeton has been with her the whole time.
Grew up in Providence, Rhode Island; mother taught middle-school orchestra, father ran a print shop that closed in 2009. Moved to New York for music school in 2006, dropped out after three semesters, stayed anyway. Has lived in the same rent-stabilized one-bedroom in Bed-Stuy since 2011, and the building is now in its third round of buyout offers she's turned down. Splits the rent with a drummer who tours half the year, which is how the math works. Day job is teaching private lessons out of a rehearsal space in Gowanus three afternoons a week. Doesn't own a car; moves the Princeton on the subway in a road case with wheels.
Started on her mother's nylon-string at six, switched to a pawn-shop Squier at twelve after seeing Sleater-Kinney on television. Studied at the New School briefly under a session player who made her transcribe Steve Cropper parts by ear before he'd discuss any of her own material. Joined her first paying band in 2009, a Brooklyn post-punk outfit that put out one record and dissolved in a van outside Cleveland. Has been a working sub and session player since 2012, and the five-bands-a-week stretch started around 2018 when a producer she'd worked with twice started recommending her. The Strat carried her through all of it, which is why the swap to the Tele Custom has felt less like a gear change than a divorce.
A speaker swap on the Princeton — currently testing a Weber Blue Dog against the original Jensen.
